My son is leaving for the Korengal Valley May 10, 2009. His first tour (15 months) was in Baghdad where the families threw a feast for his squadron and the children cried as they left. The press hasn't been so good about sharing these stories. Unfortunately, it's not going to be that way in the Korengal. Please pray for his physical and emotional safety and that he returns to us unharmed. Dear God please protect our men.

Our son is currently in the Korengal Valley with Viper Co. 1-26IN. They constantly have contact with insurgents and we say a prayer for his and all the mens safety every day. We will say a prayer for your son please say one for ours. They may cross paths but never know it. check out Boston.com The Big Picture from Nov. 2008.

I was recently in the Korengal Valley with 10th Mountain and 173rd Airborne. Your piece was true to the soldiers that lived and died in that valley. The life in that valley is some of the roughest in all of the Pech District. Thank you for conveying what we went through and what the soldiers now are going through with such realness and simplicity.

Hang tough to the men at the Korengal Valley, present and future. I know of its horrors and arduous nature and wish you all a safe return to your homes.
