If you like detective shows, but need something a little different, it's worth a look.
"The Mentalist" is a phony psychic. When his family is killed by notorious serial killer "Red John," he decides to use his skills to solve crimes, eventually including the murders of his family. His skills include close observation, logic, manipulating people, and brazen BS on a majestic scale. He's House, M.D. in a position of powerlessness: he has to be charming and manipulate people into doing what he wants, instead of being annoying and ordering them.
I have concerns about how many plots they can get out of this premise. They just did the "The Mentalist goes temporarily blind and has to solve a case without his sight" plot, and the series just started.

Absolutely. One of the best made crime genre shows today.
We like it a lot! Not as good as NCIS, of course...
They didn't change the name when it went over there?
I would have said they'd have had to...
I prefer the "The Physicalist" ...
I wouldn't give up a comped night at Hooter's to catch an episode, but I've enjoyed the episodes I've seen.
