WW2 towers mounting Anti Aircraft guns in the middle of the Thames Estuary.

The Flak towers in the Thames Estuary built in WW2 to have a go at the Luftwaffe and the V1's before they ever saw London.
I believe some of them are inhabited by pirate radio stations etc.

Maunsell Forts. Fairly close to us - you can take a boat trip from Whitstable on the North Kent coast for a tour round them, although you cannot actually alight onto the structures. Very eerie in some lights. Whitstable has got very posh now.

Further west along the same coast is Reculver with its Roman settlement, where Barnes Wallis and the RAF tested his designs for the Dambuster bombs. There's footage around of some of the more unfortunate trial runs - before they got it right.

There's an old episode of 'Danger Man' from the sixties where the catwalks that linked the towers are still in place. Have a look at Bull Sands Fort in the Humber Estuary as well - very eerie at any time...
