The US Navy should be 3 times larger than it is and the RN should be 4 times larger than it is. It is a dangerous world, you need ships designed to fight, take damage, and come back, littoral combat in nasty places.
A one trick pony. 45s are top notch in the anti-air role. But...they have no anti-ship capability. All this 'the most powerful destroyer ever' crap is propaganda. If they ever have to fight another ship they stand a good risk of being sunk.
With two new aircraft carriers in the offing, EACH will require at least four type 45's solely for air defence & the same number of frigates/ASW warships.
With all the other commitments the RN has, we're woefully short of assets to protect ONE, never mind putting together a task force such as the barely adequate one used in the Falklands War.
