...I don't know what to say about this pic, other than we have to subdue a country that lives by it's own rules. We Brits failed a long time ago and the Soviets found out the hard way (ok with some help from 'Charlie Wilson') They have no loyalty other than to themselves. Yet if we do not gain control of the region we will be there for a long time. How the hell do you deal with a people that has no concept of human decency? Genetic warfare springs to mind.

The Soviets in Afghanistan....

The pic is a fake.
Notice the turret allegedly blowing off the BRDM. If the top of the turret was rotated toward the camera, why do we see no hacthes? If the top of the turret rotated away, why are no internals visible?
Also notice the drivers hatch allegedly blowing off. Notice that it is at the exact angle where it would be if still in place and closed, with absolutely NO rotation. Also notice the distance away from it's normal location.
Do you think it's possible that the detonation was so weak that it blows the 30 lb driver's hatch only weakly and with no rotational component, but also be so powerful as to blow a 3/4 ton turret much further with at least 90 deg. rotation ?
As sad and tragic as it is, I have long suspected that we will have to "glass" several large areas of Afghanistan (and possibly Pakistan) before we will be able to get the Muslim world to join us in the 21st (or even the 20th) century ideologically.
Western pop culture won't do it, only the threat of complete annihilation will bring Islamics to the table. That threat will have to be backed up with at least one demonstration of power. trust me, you obliterate a mountain range with a well-placed nuke, they WILL listen.
Don't feel bad about UK's 3 Afghan wars. Alexander the Great even
took an arrow in the lung there and never came back --
3rd Century BC version of the Mujahadeen.
Nuke it from orbit.
