There was also a problem with carrier landings because of the angle of attack required during low speed approaches. As one test pilot said "Carrier landings are exciting enough when you can actually see the flight deck!"

Together with the Hughes Doppler Radar/Phoenix 'fire and forget' missile system.
System can track twelve targets, any six can be selected, one target designated to any missile. Light the blue touch paper(s) and stand clear (go home if you want, Phoenix is fire and forget). Each Phoenix on board radar keeps track of its own target - Splash one!
PS - Phoenix missile is a 'dogfighter'.
OT - The B1 bomber uses F111 Terrain Following Radar technology.

I cannot believe that anyone thought that a F111 was suited to being a carrier borne plane.
Robert McNamara decided this was to be a one size fits all aircraft used by all services. A terrible idea consistent with his many terrible ideas.

Like the F-35.
Another problem with the F-111B was that it was tail-heavy when resting on its wheels. This gave it a tendency to fall over backwards in heavy seas.
One measure suggested to make carrier landings easier, was for the F-111B to jettison all its armament before landing.
