Ya know - as soon as I glimpsed it, and without even closely examining it, I just knew it was Soviet.

It has that certain kludge-y, cumbersome look that seems to characterize most of the Soviet era design efforts.

I bet it flies ... badly. If it flies at all.

They only made three or so prototypes, it never went into production.

Lifting 55,000lbs is nothing to sneeze at, though.

The one pictured is in the RuAF collection at Monino, north of Moscow.

Enormous collection of all sorts of famous and weird flying hardware.

That's the Euro counterpart to the Osprey, which they expect to have in service no later than 2070...
