Gun shop owner: "Hi, how can I help you?"
Client: "I'm lookin' for a gun."
Owner: "What kind of gun are you lookin' for?"
Client: (pointing at the biggest handgun in the case) "That one looks about right."
Owner: (very surprised): "Why do you need a .44 magnum?"
Client: "It's for shootin' at cans."
Owner: (pointing at a small handgun) "Well, this is the perfect size for shooting at cans."
Client: (pointing again at the .44) "Nah, I need this one."
Owner: "OK, what kind a cans are you shooting at?"
Client: "Mexi-cans.... Puertori-cans.... Afri-cans.... Maro-cans...."

She needs to lean forward more so...ah...to...oh, to, ah, to absorb the recoil better. Yeah.
K-Jim,
She's doing everything wrong, so...I'd suggest an extended regimen of evening training for her.
*Ducks head modestly*
I will volunteer to take on this task. I may take months.
- No, no, don't thank me! -
Hell, they banned handguns over here before I got to have a go!
That's why it's been left to us Texans to chamber handguns for Holland and Holland and Rigby rifle cartridges. Downing Street won't let you do it and it had to be done by somebody.
.44 Magnums are for limp wristed girls. .416 Rigby, now THAT's a can shooter.
Thompson/Center Contender single-shot pistol, 12"-barreled for .45-70 Gvt. cartridge.
It'll put the stiff in your stuff every time.
Saw a fellow once who had built a single-shot .50 BMG on a 1911 frame.
The muzzle blast literally washed off the ceiling and floor of the range.
McGoo: I prefer my single shot 7mm-08 pistol. Less smoke, more fps.
Or just get plain silly!

Oswald,
.50 BMG with that short of a barrel is beyond silly as it has no useful ballistic capabilities. It's like building a short barrel .45-120, just don't make any sense. You need 24" or greater barrels to make either of those cartridges useful, 30+ inches is an even better idea.
An 18" barrel .458WinMag or .416 Rigby pistol will kill a cape buffalo or Ele.
Just saying, as one who plays with such things on a very regular basis.
Probably the best and most "shootable by most" large handgun hunting cartridges are the .378GNR and the .375JDJ as they work very efficiently in short barrels and deliver plenty of energy. Less powder needed, same velocity per inch of barrel length as my H&H projects.
Cheers and Happy New Year,
Thomas
