Actually, electro-kevin's on the right track. During WW2 many aircraft that couldn't be flown across the Atlantic were unloaded in Liverpool docks (Mersey Docks & Harbour Board and Little Lambs Eat Ivy) and towed backwards to nearby RAF Burtonwood for assembly.

But they said "Turn left towards Birmingham from the M5 of the A46 and take the B17 ..."
I'm guessing something to do with the Berlin airlift.
When the USAF opened a new museum at Wright-Patterson AFB they had to move all the display aircraft, this is a photo of one of them being moved.
I suspect a recently restrored b-17 on its way to a museum display. No guns and a modernish looking roadway.
I reckon that's photo-shopped.
What possible reason for not dismantling the propellers ?
This aircraft was swapped for another at Dover AFB. The story is here.
