I think they made a fair point on the cost of Police cars. Here in my county of North Yorkshire they spent shedloads on expensive saloons and Land Rovers for use as command platforms during non-existent emergencies and surprisingly couldn't find a use for them.
It's now been deemed that they can make do with Ford Focus saloons (You know, the car almost no one in the UK buys...) and shock horror, they have also insisted the cars aren't taken abroad after one of the expensive ones went on a jolly to the Continent.
This same Force had at one point built up a fighting fund of approaching £30million in cash. Just in case like.
Unfortunately, I'd bet a pound on the fear of litigation being a high priority for the Chiefs of the Forces - in that if substantially safer cars are available they have a duty of care to provide their employees with a safe work environment.

BBC America is still showing us the same episodes from the '06 season over and over again.
Tim. If you search for 'Top Gear series 7' on You tube you will find more.
