It's a toss up between this and the Mustang. Although I like the bubble canopyy version shown here I am not sure that it is the definitive look. Whatever. The Spitfire IS beautiful. And it sounds fantastic.
A nice FR Mk.XVIIIe but in my book the Spitfire was prettier with a Merlin and original tail and dark earth, green, sky camouflage so that limits things to MksI & II but I'll stretch things to the MkV & IX. The later Griffon-engined marks were like the original ballerina on steroids. Any thoughts on the FW 190 with its feline looks?
FW 190 was not 'beautiful'. Purposeful perhaps. The Spitfire was elegant. I think the Brits are good at 'elegant'. Consider. BMW = agreesive. Mercedes - assertive. Alfa - sporty. Corvette - flash. Jaguar - elegant. Well, that's my theory.
Wollf- The F4U is the Corsair but you probably got caught up in all the Mustang gushing above. I prefer the F4U-1D for the bubble canopy. but for pure, perfect lines the Spitfire will always be the "showgirl" of the lot!

The FW 190 is both lovely and deadly...still you have to give it to the early Spitires.

P-51D Mustang by far.
The three best looking piston fighters. Spit, Mustang P-51D and the FW 190 D-9.
It's the Me 262 for me!
P51D - FIGHTER
B1 BOMBER
OH, AND THE SEA FURY
I belive that all the old warbirds are sexy I like to think of them like woman, all are differnt, and have their own quirks. I'd just be happy to ride
f-16
DH 103 Hornet" http://www.dhhornet50.net/index.php
Cheers
Whatever - the Wright Brothers to the Spitfire in 33 years is some achievement.
I'd go with the Firefly or Sea Fury.
You Brits and your Spits. P-47 for me. Then again, some people don't think a sawed-off is pretty either.
Jets SR-71, B-1, Mig 29, F-15,F-16,F-18, F-20 tigershark only a couple built and X-29.
Says "sexier aircraft" not "sexier fighting aircraft". Make mine a GeeBee or a Pitts.
